One day on Renon is enough to fall in love with the charm of this sunny high plateau. You want to know what the perfect holiday looks like? Here are the best recommendations for you!
Whether you start the morning "all'italiana" with a sparse croissant and cappuccino or a sumptuous buffet is up to you. In any case, a morning walk along the 5.5-kilometre Freud Promenade, which leads from Collalbo to Soprabolzano, is a must-do. Take a deep breath and enjoy the nature: This is the perfect start to the day. The way back on the famous Renon railway, a comfortable narrow-gauge railway with partly historical, partly modern wagons. The breathtaking view of the Dolomites along the route alone makes a trip worthwhile.
The next option is a stroll through the small weekly or farmers' market (every Wednesday and Saturday morning in Collalbo and Tuesday afternoon in Soprabolzano). Here you can buy typical products like the "Rittner Kloatze" (dried pears), mountain apple juices or jams from the farm Föranerhof.
A visit at the earth pyramids in Monte di Mezzo will be finished before lunch. The 25,000 year old pillars of rock and clay are a truly impressive phenomenon. The view to the mountain world adds to the fantastic setting. A postcard is quickly sent from here to the rest of the world and then we walk back.
Time for lunch. It is difficult to choose one of the numerous restaurants. From the parlour or sun terrace, the view of the Dolomites, while typical South Tyrolean cooking with an Italian touch wanders from the plate to the stomach.
Saturated by wonderful first impressions and an exquisite lunchtime, it is best to start the afternoon with a digestive walk. To do this, take the cable car Corno del Renon (Bus 166 to Tre Vie : from Collalbo/Kaiserau at 2:08 p.m.). Once you reach the top, you will rightly have the most beautiful all-round view in South Tyrol. Now you can choose between the comfortable panoramic circular path or the ascent to the summit at 2260 m. One thing is for sure: your camera will hardly have a rest!
Contrasts make life exciting and that's why we are now going to the capital Bolzano. For this we take the Renon cable car, an ultra-modern cable car that takes you to the valley basin in 12 minutes. On the way there will be plenty of motifs for the camera again, for example the magnificent view over the roofs of Bolzano. A little stroll through the old town is the perfect ending. As dusk falls, the aperitivo bars, the pubs, the wine shops fill up. If you haven't tried Veneziano or Hugo yet, it's your own fault. So: Cheers!
