Far as the eyes can see
Rittner Horn prides it self with the prettiest 360° view in South Tyrol - and rightly so!
“For who wishes to see all of Tyrol at one sight shall climb these heights”, thus wrote Ludwig Purtscheller, mountaineer of the later 19th century, about Rittner Horn. And, if you’ve ever experienced the vastness that opens in front of you up there, if you’ve ever felt that rush of goosebumps at the sight of so much unfiltered beauty, you will surely agree with Purtscheller: The view at the top here reaches 360° to the horizon and back - absolutely open, clear and unobstructed. The onlooker’s eyes roam from the Dolomites - UNESCO World Heritage Site – spreading in one arch from southeast to south, over the summits of Peitlerkofel/Sass de Putia to the Geißlerspitzen/Gruppo delle Odle peaks, to Schlern/Sciliar and further on over Rosengarten/Catinaccio to Latemar all the way to Schwarzhorn/Corno Nero and Weißhorn/Corno Bianco.
To the north, you can catch a glimpse of the Stubai Alps gracefully peeking out behind the immense range of the Sarntal Alps/Alpi Sarentine. On clear days, and of those we have more than a few, you can make out Ortler/Ortles in the west, and see all the way to Großglockner in the east. This view is fabulously stunning all year round, so a trip to Rittner Horn becomes an unforgettable experience - in summer and winter alike.
You can reach the peak at an altitude of 2260 meters by taking the gondola from Pemmern/Tre Vie to Schwarzseepitze/Cima Lago Nero and from thence it’s about an hour hike up to the top. In winter, you can simply ride the T-bar to the peak on your skis or snowboard.
And then it’s easy - stoked on the magnificent view – to enjoy a fun day on the gentle, vast slopes of the ski resort Rittner Horn, and stumble into its fantastic huts that invite to deliciously warm and cheerful refreshment stops.
