Ritten was honoured by the South Tyrolean Energy Agency - KlimaHaus for its exemplary energy and climate protection policy as a "Silver" climate community and with the "European Energy Award".
The auditors examined the measures implemented and awarded a score of 54.7%, which corresponds to the "Silver" award.
The following measures were particularly recognised in the audit of the KlimaGemeinde Ritten: a district heating plant powered by local biomass with combined heat and power (CHP), the conversion of public lighting to LED, the renewal of the interior lighting systems and the increase in efficiency of the heating systems. The installation of four photovoltaic systems on municipal buildings as well as events and initiatives such as the energy suitcase, the "Ritten wins energy" conference and the energy-saving brochure were also rated positively. The participatory process for cycling on Renon with various local stakeholders was also emphasised, as were initiatives to promote the circular economy and the GSTC certification of Ritten tourism.
The municipality of Ritten plays a central role in the realisation of major climate policy objectives at the concrete implementation level and actively involves the population in this process.
