Who can claim to have skated on the fastest outdoor ice rink in the world? There where the international stars of speed skating set their records. With a view of the magnificent Dolomites, the Ice rink Renon is the paradise for skaters. I had to go there.
Did you know that you lose about 350 calories in an hour skating? All the more reason to grab my skates. And where, if not on Renon: Whether at the ice rink, in the ice arena of Collalbo, at the ice rink in Soprabolzano or at the idyllic lake Costalovara- here, skaters have a free choice.
First of all I decide on the
ice rink, where on Sundays there is almost always public skating with music. Here you can also rent skates. The ice is smooth as glass and ideal for a race with my children: Who can skate faster and who can make the tighter turns? No wonder that professional speed skaters like it here so much: the view of the Sciliar is fantastic!
But now I would like to test the lake Costalovara. The ice layer there is mostly cleared of snow. It is teeming with people who play curling and children playing ice hockey with their friends. Couples in love glide hand in hand and families organise fun obstacle course races. I watch the hustle and bustle and do my laps with a view of the beautiful forest at the edge of the lake and poof, the hour is over. 350 calories are burned - reason enough to treat myself to a hot chocolate... Best to try everything!
